Relics from the past, from the ornate, handmade iron molds feather cakes were baked in to the big straw baskets used for gathering onions and potatoes, are displayed on walls and shelves. Enlarged old photographs depicting dusty roads filled with horse-drawn wagons, sturdy buildings of brick, stone, and plank, abundant front-yard gardens and orchards surrounded by wooden fences also serve as reminders of the way things were.

Yet other features of the restaurant today would have been unheard of in its early years: the jovial hosts in lederhosen, the joking and laughter in the upstairs beer garden, the music provided by the zither player. That was back when the followers of a religious movement known as the Community of True Inspiration staunchly abided by a cardinal rule of precommunal living. All property was held in common and both church and secular affairs were governed by the same leadership.
